Myriad Systems opens data center as protected site;
Facility will safeguard information belonging to company ís clients
Jim Stafford, Business Writer

Another Oklahoma City alternative has surfaced to help corporations solve the challenge of ensuring 24/7 access to critical computer data. Myriad Systems Inc. has opened a data center in a new concrete 'safe room' at its headquarters at 2637 E Interstate 44 Service Road, offering Web hosting services, officials said Thursday.

Myriad Systems is opening its data center only to the clients of the Web based software and applications it provides primarily to the financial services industry, said Shaun Riney, president. The company serves banks, thrifts, universities and government agencies with a broad menu of software and services that help in transaction, document and statement processing and mailing distribution. Data centers offer Web hosting services where clients can physically locate computer servers in an offsite location that feature redundant telecommunications and power access in a climate-controlled environment. The goal is to ensure clients always have access to their data. "Data security, redundancy, availability and bandwidth are all important," Riney said. In Oklahoma City, FullNet Communications and Perimeter Technology Center already offer similar services in their own secure data centers. Another data center built by MidCon Data is expected to open soon along the Broadway Extension in far north Oklahoma City.

The market is far from saturat

The market is far from saturated, said John Parsons, chief executive officer of Perimeter Technology Center. Corporations are searching for solutions to protecting their data. "Demand is increasing dramatically," Parsons said. "In the tier 1 cities, demand is so great they have had to put customers on hold while they build new centers, and they've doubled prices. It's just a sound alternative to keeping your IT structure in house. It can be done so much cheaper in a commercial data center through economies of scale." The company opened the data center with the recent completion of its 600-square-foot "safe room," Riney said. "The MSI Data Center provides greater speed and security for financial institutions," he said. "But it is also important to keep in mind that we built this safe room to be tornado- and flood-proof. There is no safer place for sensitive financial information to be than in the new MSI Data Center." Myriad Systems also is considering opening a second data center in Texas, he said.
